"The worst start to a season in Hanley Ramirez's career might finally be behind him.
Maybe those ugly struggles that reached new franchise lows in June are behind the Marlins, too.
Ramirez, playing his 10th game in his new role as the team's clean-up hitter, didn't have a perfect night. He dropped a pop fly that would have been the third out in the sixth inning, allowing the Rangers to score and trim what had once been a six-run lead to two.
But when the Marlins needed a lift, the three-time All-Star was there. He belted two home runs, including the fifth grand slam of his career in the first inning, as the Marlins held on for a 9-5 win in front of 29,778 at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
"It was nice to get 13 hits and those home runs by Hanley, but it was a struggle," Marlins manager Jack McKeon said. "Thank God we survived."
The multi-home run game was Ramirez's first since May 2, 2010, and gave him 11 in his career, tying Dan Uggla and Mike Lowell for the franchise lead. His five RBI were his most since June 25, 2009.
When McKeon benched Ramirez on June 20, he was hitting .201 with four homers and 17 RBI."
