While Bud Norris walked several hundred feet from the visitor’s clubhouse to the Orioles’ room had to be made on the roster for him.

The Orioles placed Jason Hammel whose place he will temporarily take in the rotation on the 15-day disabled list with a flexor mass strain in his right arm. The move is retroactive to Monday.

Hammel who hasn’t won in 10 straight starts is 7-8 with a 5.20 ERA.

“I’ve been dealing with it all year” Hammel said. The right-hander said it began during spring training.

“It’s not really a pain thing. It’s more of an uncomfortable thing.”

He’ll have an MRI on Thursday.

“I figured I could pitch through it. As of right now it’s really not what’s best for this team. I haven’t been pitching to my capability and it’s really not worth going out there and further injuring myself” Hammel said.

He hasn’t won since May 27 and now that they’ve acquired Bud Norris Hammel will sit out until at least Aug. 13.

“I don't like making excuses and I most certainly don't like the DL so hopefully this will be a quick fix and we can push it behind us" Hammel said.

Last year Hammel pitched through a bad right knee which caused to miss much of the second half of last season.
