Hamels, Phils' big inning too much for Brewers

"Remember that incredible Miller Park magic?

Neither do the Milwaukee Brewers.

OK, maybe things haven't gotten that bad yet. But the same home field on which the Brewers seemingly have gotten most every break for much of this season has suddenly become disturbingly hospitable for visiting teams.

The National League-leading Philadelphia Phillies rode a complete game from starter Cole Hamels and a six-run sixth inning keyed by a questionable call by first-base umpire Angel Hernandez to beat the Brewers, 7-2, Thursday night in front of a sellout crowd of 41,646.

It was the fourth consecutive home loss for the Brewers, who saw their National League Central lead drop to eight games over the idle St. Louis Cardinals. The Brewers' magic number for clinching the division remained at 11.

And don't forget the hard-charging Arizona Diamondbacks, who are now just one game behind the Brewers in the loss column as the teams fight for home-field advantage in the divisional series.

Now, with the one-two punch of Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee coming up over the next two days, things could very easily get worse for the Brewers if they're not careful.

"There's a lot of stuff going on, but this is a fun series for us," said Corey Hart, who had one of the Brewers' two solo homers. "Anytime you go against the best - and these guys have been the best team in baseball all year - it's exciting.

"Hopefully we can come back tomorrow and play better. We just had a rough one inning. I think they know that, too.""
