Hamburg are launching a £6million bid for Everton striker Nikica Jelavic.

The Croatian, 27, made a spectacular start to his Everton career when he scored 11 goals in his first 16 games but last season struggled for form and new manager Roberto Martinez has signed Aroune Kone from Wigan.

Hamburg sporting director Oliver Kreuzer said: 'Jelavic would be exactly the right player for us. He is a really dangerous striker," he said. "But we have to scrutinise whether it is financially possible.

'I have heard that Everton's new manager wants to sell him.
'Day in, day out, I talk to all the agents, but nothing has come up yet,' Kreuzer said. 'If we manage that [to sell two or three players] we could work out if a loan or a payment in instalments would be possible.'

Everton, meanwhile, are considering an £850,000 bid for 19-year-old French centre-back Mory Kone.

The Paris-born defender plays for Le Mans in the French second division but has represented Ivory Coast at the U17 World Cup and France at U19 level. Manager Roberto Martinez wants cover with John Heitinga attracting attention from clubs in Turkey.
