Halladay gets kick out of sliding home

"In his 1 1/2 seasons with the Phillies, there's not much Roy Halladay hasn't accomplished, so even his teammates tend to take a strong pitching performance for granted every now and then.

But when Halladay supplements his pitching with a single, a walk and an impressive bit of base running, scoring from second on a single -- well, that gets a little more attention.

"To be able to lean on Roy, and for him to do what he did, go out there and compete -- not only that but he got a couple knocks, kind of rallied the troops running the bases and scoring on a base hit," Ryan Howard said after the Phillies' 7-3 win Sunday over Pittsburgh. "He did it all."

Halladay pitched seven strong innings, with only a two-run homer by Neil Walker in the first inning blemishing his stat line.

After Walker's homer, an unusually emotional Halladay was furious with himself as he walked off the mound.

"I was frustrated after the home run," Halladay said.

"After the inning was over, I yelled a four-letter word to myself."

Home-plate ump Angel Hernandez thought the word was directed at him, however, and the two got into a minor argument before manager Charlie Manuel and third baseman Placido Polanco intervened.

There didn't appear to be any hard feelings the rest of the way, however, as Halladay cruised through the next six frames.

Perhaps the most impressive part of Halladay's outing, however, was that he stayed sharp after exerting quite a bit of energy on the bases.

He walked in the fifth inning and smacked a one-out single in the sixth. After moving to second base on a ground out, Halladay zoomed around third on a single by Polanco, sliding in safely at home."
