On this weekends Last Week Tonight, John Oliver focused his surgical laser of common sense at one of professional sports greatest farces - Publicly-funded sports stadiums. In what has become common practice, billionaire owners shake down their local government for public money to spend on stadiums or modern palaces - without any reasonable amount of compensation.

Oliver points out that teams keep the revenue, offering the promise of urban revitalization for the area, which is absolute horse shit. Largely, because there’s never been any demonstrated connection between new multi-billion dollar stadiums and increased local growth.

The controversy over public funds being used to finance sports stadiums isn’t new and by no means slowing down as Oliver points out numerous teams are attempting to exercise the con right now. I’m going to guess those teams were not to happy with John Oliver this morning.
