"Even though Manny Ramirez hit only .261 with one home run and two RBIs in 24 games for the White Sox at the end of last season, manager Ozzie Guillen said he didn't "have any complaints or regrets (having) him with the ballclub."

Ramirez retired Friday from the Rays, who were playing the Sox, amid drug testing allegations.

"Manny, as a friend, as his former manager, he was great for the game, he has done a lot of great things for baseball," Guillen said. "He was one of the best hitters to play the game. He played good for us last year. I wish he could have played better. He was great in the clubhouse."

Ramirez was in Chicago long enough to make $1.1 million and still is collecting on more than $3 million in deferred payments from the Sox."
