"Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, whose effectiveness in Super Bowl XLVI was limited (two catches, 26 yards) by a high left ankle sprain suffered two weeks before in the AFC Championship game, yesterday underwent arthroscopic surgery.
A team source said Gronkowski had multiple torn ligaments, and was operated on by Dr. George Theodore at Massachusetts General Hospital.
The recovery time is expected to be around 10 weeks.
Gronkowski was injured late in the Patriots' win over Baltimore when he was tackled after a catch by Ravens safety Bernard Pollard.
In just his second season, Gronkowski set NFL records for a tight end for touchdowns (18) and receiving yards (1,327), and his infectious personality won him many fans."
