"That Greg Jennings wants the football more should come as no surprise.
That it caused his frustration to boil over on the sideline during Sunday's loss at Washington was unexpected. But there was Jennings, in the midst of his third straight game with only two receptions, blowing off steam by the Packers' bench. The normally calm fifth-year veteran ended up apologizing to his position coach, Jimmy Robinson, afterward.
"It felt good to release some of that built-up tension because I never really do that," Jennings said. "I had to tell Jimmy, 'My fault, Jimmy. It's not you. It's this game of football.' And being a competitor, you get caught up in the game and caught up in your emotions, and they get best of you sometimes, and I definitely let them get the best of me on Sunday."
Jennings called his actions "out of character."
"I've never been an 'I-I, me-me guy,' and our guys know that," Jennings said. "But when you're not able to perform to your level and you have really no control over it, it is frustrating."
That suggests Jennings doesn't think he's getting the ball thrown his way enough. Statistically, he's been targeted more times (30) than everyone except Donald Driver (34). But Jennings said those numbers are deceiving.
"You can have 100 targets, but if you can't get your hands on 80 of them, it's just the ball being thrown in your area," he said. "That's really been the case when it comes to my targets."
Jennings said less than six of the so-called targets he didn't catch were actually catchable.
"The rest were just no chance," he said.
With several days to cool off, Jennings' demeanor was different, but his message was the same. He's frustrated that after five games, he has only 14 catches (fourth highest on the team) for 183 yards, although he is tied for the team lead with three touchdown catches."
