"In only two pitches, Curtis Granderson found redemption.
The All-Star outfielder wasted no time erasing the sting from getting caught stealing for the final out in Tuesday's loss, hitting a three-run homer in the first inning off rookie Garrett Richards last night, propelling the Yankees to a 9-3 win over the Angels at Yankee Stadium.
"As soon as I left here, it was done and over with," said Granderson, who homered twice. "Once it's done with you forget about it and get ready for the next one. That's the most important game and the only one you can control."
Following walks to Brett Gardner and Derek Jeter to open the inning, Granderson belted a 1-0 fastball from Richards into right-center field. The ball bounced on the top of the fence and over for his 30th home run of the season.
Richards, who was making his first career major league appearance, was filling in for Angels ace Jered Weaver, who is serving a six-game suspension. Facing the second-highest scoring team in baseball, the 23-year-old right-hander was thrown to the wolves, and following three straight losses, the Yankees were hungry.
With one out in the fifth inning, Granderson picked on the new kid once more, blasting a solo shot into the second deck of right field, giving the 30-year-old a single-season career-high of 31 home runs, third-most in the majors. He finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs, three runs, a walk and his third multi-homer game of the season."
