Our Lady of the Sacred Heart basketball standout Cameron Johnson signed with Pitt Monday, giving the Panthers three WPIAL recruits in the Class of 2014.

The 6-foot-8, 185-pound combination guard averaged 27.8 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists as a senior and finished with 1,175 career points.

He chose Pitt over scholarship offers from Elon, Rice and Wofford and was receiving interest from Boston College, Stanford and Virginia.

Johnson sprouted 6 inches between his junior and senior seasons, which drew the interest of Pitt coach Jamie Dixon.

“Coach Dixon said he saw how much I improved since the summer and said he saw the potential he could pull out of me,” said Johnson, whose father, Gil, played for the Panthers from 1988-90. “I've been talking to some big schools all along, so it wasn't a shock to me, but everyone in Western Pennsylvania loves Pitt, and my dad played there.
