"Frank Gore has 782 rushing yards, five touchdowns and two sprained ankles.
The yards will be a big topic today against the New York Giants as he chases down Hall of Fame running back Joe Perry for first place on the 49ers' all-time rushing list. Gore, who has had five straight games with 100 or more rushing yards, needs 149 yards to break Perry's record.
The running back's ankles, health and overall freshness, however, likely will be debated beyond today, especially if the 49ers secure a playoff spot in the coming weeks.
Gore is on pace for the most carries of his career, and coach Jim Harbaugh last week said the 49ers are "cognizant" of his workload as the second half of the season begins.
Gore, who sprained his left ankle in the second quarter last Sunday, practiced throughout the week and is listed as probable for today."
