Gordon's double in ninth leads Royals to 3-2 win over A's

"Alex Gordon produced a clutch ninth-inning hit Tuesday for the second time in five days in helping the Royals find a way, finally, to beat the Oakland A's.

Gordon's leadoff double led to the winning run in a 3-2 victory at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. The A's had won all four previous games this season between the two teams.

"Alex is really swinging the bat well," manager Ned Yost said. "He's doing fine in the outfield and having good at-bats."

The Royals built leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before handing a 3-2 lead to Joakim Soria in the ninth inning. Soria worked a one-two-three inning for his 30th save in 32 opportunities.

Gordon had a three-run walk-off homer last Friday in a 7-5 victory over Baltimore at Kauffman Stadium. This time, he opened the ninth inning against A's reliever Craig Breslow with a bad-hop double past first baseman Daric Barton.

Gordon moved to third on Mitch Maier's sacrifice before Breslow set up a force with an intentional walk to Yuniesky Betancourt."
