The Carolina Hurricanes signed 2012 second-round pick Phil Di Giuseppe to a three-year entry-level contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Di Giuseppe, a 20-year-old forward who was the 38th pick in 2012, will forego his senior season at the University of Michigan. He had 11 goals and 26 points in 40 games for the Wolverines in 2013-14, who did not make the NCAA tournament after being upset by Penn State University in the opening round of the inaugural Big Ten tournament.

"We're pleased that Phil has chosen to begin his professional hockey career," Hurricanes Vice President of Hockey Operations Ron Francis said
