Dallas' quest to acclimate their three new players in the lineup has been slowed by Carter's knee tendinitis. Although coach Rick Carlisle is confident the injury is not serious, Carter has had only one full practice.

Any delay is significant because the Mavericks begin defense of their NBA title against the Miami Heat on Christmas Day, and there's only nine shopping days left.

Carter, 34, has been observing practices since before his deal with the Mavericks became official. But until Thursday night, the swingman had not experienced live action with the team."
