Miguel Gonzalez won’t have to go on a minor league rehab assignment after all. After being placed on the 15-day disabled list with a blister on his right thumb, the Orioles decided that Gonzalez can throw a simulated game on Friday afternoon instead.

If Gonzalez gets through his game without the blister bothering him, he’ll be able to pitch, possibly next Tuesday against the Yankees.

“I think it was a good idea,” Gonzalez said. “I think it will be fine. Facing my teammates it will be cool.”

He’ll throw 25-30 pitches in the bullpen and then another 25 to batters.

Gonzalez hasn’t pitched since May 3 when he left the Orioles game against Los Angeles when the blister began bothering him.
