The 25th-ranked Gonzaga men’s team could have won the West Coast Conference regular-season title outright with a victory Saturday night at San Diego.

But the Toreros, coached by former Zags assistant Bill Grier, beat Gonzaga 69-66.

It was the second consecutive loss for the Zags (23-6 overall, 13-3 WCC). They lost 73-65 at Brigham Young on Thursday.

Gonzaga, which has clinched at least a tie for the conference championship, can guarantee itself an outright WCC title with a victory in either of its last two games, at Pacific on Thursday or at Saint Mary’s on Saturday.

Duda Sanadze scored 15 points, including three free throws in the final 2.9 seconds, for San Diego (16-14, 7-10). The Toreros lost the previous 11 times they faced the Zags.

San Diego’s Johnny Dee scored 16 points.
