Glavine joins Braves' front office

"Tom Glavine is once again back with the Braves.

The former Braves pitching great has been hired as a special assistant to team president John Schuerholz, and will also take on some Braves broadcasting duties in 2010.

A 305-game winner, Glavine will assist Schuerholz on baseball and business projects and also work on special assignments for general manager Frank Wren and manager Bobby Cox. Glavine and Braves officials will have a 4 p.m. news conference today at Turner Field.

“This is an exciting day for the Braves and Braves fans,” Schuerholz said in a prepared statement. “We are looking forward to Tom rejoining our organization in this new capacity. Not only do we feel that he will make a significant impact throughout our organization, but he will also complement our radio and television broadcasts.”

Fox Sports South also announced today that Glavine, a 305-game winner and future Hall-of-Famer, would join their broadcast booth for a minimum of 13 Braves Sunday home games in the 2010 season. He will work alongside broadcasters Chip Caray and Joe Simpson for those games and possibly others.

Glavine's new mixed-use job with the Braves will also include occasional guest appearances on the Braves radio network pregame show and guest analyst duties on some radio game broadcasts. "
