"Giants tight end Jake Ballard suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee early in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLVI and, following reconstructive surgery, will miss at least eight months, making it possible he will miss the entire 2012 season.

The Giants already knew that another tight end, Travis Beckum, went down in the Super Bowl with a torn ACL, putting his 2012 season at risk.

Ballard immediately after the 21-17 victory over the Patriots did not think he tore his ACL, saying he believed he suffered damage to his meniscus cartilage but not to any ligaments. The Giants revealed Tuesday that Ballard did tear his ligament."
