Giants' middle linebacker Keith Bulluck slides to the outside

"Here is the Giants' version of "Who's on first?" brought to you by linebackers Michael Boley and Keith Bulluck.

Boley: "Keith, tell me about this whole strong side-weak side reversal thing."

Bulluck: "You know in Tennessee I played the weak side and now they call it the strong side here. It's totally different because I was always on the weak side and now they call it the strong side and it's called 'Sam' and before it was called 'Will.' You played 'Will' but now you're on the strong side and now I'm on the weak side which is called 'Sam'…"

Boley: "Got it."

Until Monday morning, however, defensive coordinator Perry Fewell's outside backer terminology — based on the relationship of the linebacker to the defensive lineman playing in front of him _ was of no consequence to Bulluck.

He had been playing "Mike," which all 32 NFL teams call their middle linebacker. All his snaps at the University at Albany, limited as he returned from knee surgery late last season, came in the middle — where he eventually figured to replace Jonathan Goff as the starter.

That changed Monday as the Giants began working at their Timex Complex.

"I came into work [Monday] and they told me I would be taking some outside linebacker snaps, that's all I know," Bulluck said Tuesday. In two practices at the complex, Bulluck was limited to weak-side linebacker snaps, putting him in competition with second-year man Clint Sintim.

"I don't know what my role is right now," Bulluck conceded. "I'm just here right now learning, I'm learning the positions they put me at, I'm learning the system, I'm learning the New York Giants way. I don't portray myself as a starter or anything right now. I just portray myself as just another linebacker learning the system.""
