The San Francisco Giants have let go of longtime pitching coach Dave Righetti, league sources tell FanRag Sports.

Righetti is expected to be reassigned and have a role in the team’s front office, sources said.

It’s a surprise move, given that Righetti has been with the team for 17 seasons and has been instrumental in building the Giants’ young pitching staff.

But the Giants are letting go of Righetti and others as the team significantly overhauls a coaching staff under manager Bruce Bochy that also includes reassignments of Ron Wotus and Hensley Meulens, FanRag Sports has learned.

San Francisco was middle-of-the-pack in terms of team ERA in the National League with a 4.50 ERA, which among other reasons has been why the Giants have seen such a drop-off in recent play.
