"Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf will be out until at least late January with a facial injury, according to the team.
Getzlaf saw a specialist Tuesday and it was determined that surgery will not be required.
But he will be out four to six weeks from the time of his Dec. 28 injury, which means he won't be ready to return until after the All-Star break.
"We knew he wouldn't be back right away," Ducks forward Corey Perry said. "It's pretty serious. We know how long he's going to be out for now. We've just got to go ahead and not even think about it.
"It's not the greatest news. But you've got to live with that."
Getzlaf suffered nasal sinus fractures against Phoenix when he was hit by a deflected shot from Coyotes captain Shane Doan. A CT scan done days later revealed the fractures to be non-displaced and stable.
"It was pretty scary for the first few days after," he said outside the club's dressing room at Honda Center, talking about the injury for the first time. "After the first CT scan, we weren't really sure what exactly was wrong. There was a lot of different fractures and stuff going on up there."
