Getzlaf delivers OT winner for Ducks

"Who says Ryan Getzlaf won't shoot the puck?

The ultra-skilled Ducks center is known as much for his aversion to unleashing his wicked shot as he is for his sublime playmaking but his mind was made up after he spun his way loose from Washington rookie defenseman John Carlson in overtime.

Getzlaf's wrist shot from the left faceoff dot blew past Capitals goalie Semyon Varlamov with 56.6 seconds left to lift the surging Ducks to a hard-earned 2-1 victory at Verizon Center for their third consecutive victory and fourth in five games.

"It's been something that I've been doing a little more in the last few games," said Getzlaf, who has 11 goals. "And I've been able to capitalize on a few."

Said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle: "Well, it's about time. We'd like see him shoot the puck a lot more."

But this was no showcase for Getzlaf or his linemates like Sunday night's explosion against Minnesota. There were many facets to this latest victory that lifted the Ducks (17-13-4) to a first-place tie with Dallas in the Pacific Division.

Jonas Hiller stopped 31 shots but his best work came in the first period when he turned away 16, with the Capitals' Brooks Laich getting the first and only goal past him. Joffrey Lupul delivered a key power-play goal in the second."
