Injured Giants guard Geoff Schwartz got good news on Monday when he learned his toe injury was “just a minor setback” and that he may even be back sometime next month.

Schwartz, who dislocated his right big toe on Friday night, will not even need surgery for his injury, according to the Giants. After Schwartz visited Dr. Robert Anderson, a foot specialist in Charlotte, it was determined that he’ll be in a walking boot for 7-10 days and will be “evaluated on a week to week basis” after that.

So Schwartz will miss the Giants’ opener in Detroit on Sept. 8, but according to a team source it is possible that he could return before the end of September.

“This is just a minor setback,” Schwartz said. “I plan on attacking the rehab program so I can get back on the field as soon as possible with my teammates and help us win games.”
