Cubs starter Matt Garza is out indefinitely with stress reaction in the back of his right elbow, and could miss the rest of the season.

With only 54 games left after Monday, it would seem as though the Cubs would take the conservative option and shut Garza down next month. But right now, they aren't willing to speculate on that decision.

"Matt is a competitor," general manager Jed Hoyer said. "He's going to want to get out there and get going. He's going to be eager to get back. I'm sure we'll wind up holding him back to a certain extent."
