Charlie Adam is a surprise target for Turkish club Galatasaray.

The 28-year-old joined Stoke for £5m on a four-year contract from Liverpool in the summer of 2012 and is the club’s top scorer in the Premier League this season with five goals including one against Liverpool on Sunday.

Roberto Mancini is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of their Champions League tie with Chelsea and Adam is eligible to play.

The midfielder’s representatives are understood to be in Istanbul with Stoke awaiting a proposal.

Former Manchester City manager Mancini is keen on Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic, Chelsea skipper John Terry and Arsenal full-back Bacary Sagna but all those are targets for the summer.

The reigning Turkish champions are yet to release a statement regarding Adam. Galatasaray are facing pressure from the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) regarding the signing of foreign players.
