"If the Indianapolis Colts had their druthers, they would practice today and Saturday, take Sunday off, have a light practice Monday, then depart for Miami.
The NFL, of course, has other ideas, and Colts president Bill Polian has made it clear his team doesn't like them. The league has required the Colts' seven Pro Bowl players to be present Sunday evening in Miami, even though they won't play in the Pro Bowl that night.
Stay tuned.
"There are some injury situations involved in it, so it just depends on whether or not the doctors make a determination on flying at that time: Is it good for them, not good for them or whatever it might be," Colts coach Jim Caldwell said Thursday. "It could also be a situation where because of treatment, there could be some other plans for Dwight."
Defensive end Dwight Freeney is being treated for a sprained ankle. Safety Antoine Bethea has a back issue.
So the Colts will hold a light practice Sunday, then send quarterback Peyton Manning, tight end Dallas Clark, wide receiver Reggie Wayne, center Jeff Saturday and defensive end Robert Mathis and possibly Bethea and Freeney south.
The rest of the team will follow Monday.
Of Freeney, Caldwell said, "He's coming along and he's getting better. I had a chance to visit with him a little bit earlier this morning and he's getting better.""
