"After starting training camp with buzz about what they didn't do, the Broncos are close to making their first significant roster move of the offseason by adding Willis McGahee to their backfield.

According to an NFL source, the Broncos have a four-year contract worth approximately $9.5 million in place for McGahee, pending a physical that he took Saturday night at the team's facility.

McGahee, who turns 30 in October, hasn't been an every-down back since the first half of the 2008 season. That suggests he would likely become a 1B back to starter Knowshon Moreno.

But new Broncos coach John Fox prefers strong backs to handle his running game. And with McGahee at 235 pounds - and Moreno trimmed down to 200 - the competition be may be on.

The NFL's new collective bargaining agreement rules would prevent McGahee from practicing with the Broncos until Thursday, one week before their preseason opener at Dallas.
