"Little in the way of trades or signings is expected from the Tigers until at least later this week, although a graybeard free agent, Jamey Carroll, is open to a conversation with the Tigers as they ponder possible options on an everyday second baseman.
Carroll, 37, has had back-to-back seasons hitting .290 or better for the Dodgers in a combined 279 games.
Jonathan Maurer, Carroll's agent, said Saturday that he and Carroll were exploring multiple opportunities and overtures that have been extended during a particularly hot off-season market for second basemen.
Maurer said the Tigers would be viewed "enthusiastically" by Carroll in any potential conversations, although the Tigers aren't yet tipping their hand on targets as they begin organizational meetings today at Comerica Park.
"The Tigers are a great organization," said Maurer, whose firm is based in Cincinnati. "Right now, we're considering all clubs.""
