Jake Peavy has hired an agent who is very familiar with the White Sox as well as some of the biggest pitchers' contracts.

Jeff Berry of Creative Artists Agency will represent Peavy, who will be a free agent for the first time and should be one of the more sought-after pitchers on the market.

Berry represents Sox left-hander John Danks and former Sox lefty Mark Buehrle.

Berry and Rick Hahn, the Sox assistant general manager who is expected to take over soon as GM, have agreed to terms on more than $170 million in contracts for Danks, Buehrle and Mark Teahen since Hahn joined the Sox 12 years ago.

And in the last year, Berry has negotiated deals worth more than $250million for the Giants' Matt Cain, Buehrle and Danks. Cain signed a six-year, $127.5 million contract with San Francisco before the 2012 season, which made him baseball's highest-paid right-handed pitcher.

Berry is aware his new client would prefer to stay with the Sox but recognizes Peavy's value.
