"Minnie Minoso has been selected to receive the 2011 Jerome Holtzman Award from the Chicago Baseball Museum.

Dr. David Fletcher, president and founder of the organization, made the announcement Friday regarding the former White Sox star outfielder.

The award is named after the late Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times Hall of Fame baseball writer Jerome Holtzman, and is presented annually to "the person who has made the most significant contribution to the promotion of local baseball and the preservation of its history and tradition," according to the organization's release."
