The Mets continue to add experience to their coaching staff. Thursday they added former MLB player and Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. as their first base coach, an industry source confirmed.

Amaro joins a veteran staff of Pat Roessler as hitting coach and Dave Eiland as pitching coach to back up young, first-time manager Mickey Callaway. The Mets will retain bullpen coach Ricky Bones, leaving just the bench coach to fill out the staff.

Amaro brings a wide range of experience to the Mets.

After 10 years in the Phillies’ front office, Amaro — the son of former MLB player Ruben Amaro Sr. — was promoted to GM of the Mets’ NL East rival in 2008. He ran the team for seven seasons, before he was fired after the 2015 season.
