"Even Sunday you could see Jonny Flynn ramping it up.
The Wolves point guard, on the mend from left hip surgery, participated in an intense post-practice 3-on-3 scrimmage Sunday with both words and elbows flying.
"I hadn't been that competitive since before surgery," Flynn said, referring to the late- July procedure to repair a torn labrum. "So that was good."
Monday was better, with Flynn taking full part in scrimmages during practice. Afterward, a confident Flynn said: "It's a big possibility I could be playing within a week, whether it's the [Developmental] League or the NBA. Get one game in the D-League, a rehab game. So, within the next week, there is a high possibility I'll be playing."
Asked when the meeting would take place to make that decision, Flynn said it could come later Monday afternoon or Tuesday. But he also said he's already dialed up the Sioux Falls Skyforce schedule and roster in anticipation of his return.
"That's going to be my opening day," Flynn said. "The opening day for the guys was about a month ago. My opening day is going to be [with] the Skyforce."
Wolves coach Kurt Rambis was a little more guarded. He said Flynn looked good in practice and that another step was taken. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow," Rambis said.
Flynn, not surprisingly, sounded confident, both in his imminent return and where that return would take place -- with the Skyforce, most likely a home game.
"I think it's the best thing for me, getting the speed of the game back," he said. "There are so many integral things you have to get back, staying from basketball for four months. You have to get your timing back, you have to figure out the speed of the game again, you have to figure out what you can and can't do. So, I think that will be a great measure for me down in the D-League."
The Skyforce plays at Des Moines on Wednesday, then at home Friday, Saturday, Dec. 7 and Dec. 10."
