"The rookies beat the sophomores for the first time in eight years Friday night in Dallas, and Timberwolves guard Jonny Flynn isn't going to let teammate Kevin Love forget about it any time soon.
"He's going to hear about this for the rest of the season," Flynn said after his team beat the sophs 140-128 in the Rookie Challenge. "That's why I never speak too soon because things like this can come back and bite you. But I can talk now, and I will. Kevin's going to hear about this."
Flynn scored nine points and had seven assists in nearly 18 minutes. Love had 12 points and six rebounds in 18 minutes after not being chosen for the game last season as a rookie, a decision by NBA assistant coaches that stung him for months.
"It has been great, my first time around obviously," Love said after Sacramento's Tyreke Evans scored 26 points and San Antonio's DeJuan Blair had 22 points and 23 rebounds to lead the rookies to victory for only the third time in 11 such games. "Going to the Jam Session. Hanging out at the hotel. Seeing everybody. Going to the parties."
Love hooked up with former UCLA teammate Russell Westbrook by hitting him in the first half with a long outlet pass, just like they did for that one season in college.
Flynn appeared to take the ball right at Love the first time both of them got on the floor together -- "Of course I did," he said. "Got to." -- and got lots of television time while joyously cheering teammates from the bench. He exited the floor afterward riding on Blair's back in celebration."
