Brett Hextall, son of Flyers general manager and Hall of Famer Ron Hextall, signed a contract Monday with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the team’s AHL affiliate, for the 2014-15 season.

A sixth-round draft pick of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2008, Hextall, 26, played the past three seasons with the Portland (Maine) Pirates, the AHL affiliate of the Coyotes. The 5-10, 190-pound right wing amassed a career-high 11 goals, 23 points and 83 penalty minutes in 59 games last season.

Brett Hextall is a fourth-generation professional hockey player. Father, Ron, played in 608 NHL games with the Flyers, Quebec Nordiques and New York Islanders. Grandfather Bryan Hextall Jr. played in 549 NHL games for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1970s. Great grandfather Bryan Hextall Sr. earned Hockey Hall of Fame honors with the New York Rangers from 1936-48. Great uncle Dennis Hextall also played in the NHL.
