"The Marlins are awaiting the results of an MRI that was performed on Hanley Ramirez's injured left shoulder on Wednesday, and it remains uncertain whether he will miss the rest of the season.

Ramirez took himself out of a rehab game with Single A Jupiter on Tuesday because of discomfort in the shoulder and returned to Miami for a medical evaluation.

The Marlins had been hoping that Ramirez, who has been out since early August with a sprained shoulder, could rejoin the team Friday.

Now those plans have been shelved.

Ramirez was hitting just .243 when he injured the shoulder diving for a ball on Aug. 2.

Despite a poor season, his impact on the team is reflected in its record. When Ramirez has been in the lineup, the Marlins have gone 50-39. When he's been absent, they are 10-35.

Home run derby

No Marlin has ever won a home run title.

But, with a month to go in the season, Mike Stanton is in the thick of contention.

Stanton belted his 31st home run on Tuesday, putting him in a tie for the league lead with Albert Pujols and Matt Kemp."
