"That's going to stay within the team," Backlund said Tuesday, a few hours after undergoing surgery to repair the digit. "I don't want to put him out there as a bad guy. Stuff happens. If people saw (the incident), they know. But if they didn't, it's going to stay within the team."

What he will share is disappointment over the injury.

"A tough day," said Backlund, who's expected to be sidelined for six weeks. "I'm starting to feel better, preparing myself for being out for a long time. But I'm feeling really sad and disappointed. Hopefully, I'll recover faster than the doctor says. You never know.""
