On Wednesday, the Rams announced that guard Rokevious Watkins has been suspended for the first game of the upcoming season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

“I’ll say this, we’ve been aware of it for quite some time,’’ coach Jeff Fisher said. “I’m not going to go into specifics of the suspension. We respect the league’s decision, but personally and respectfully, I disagree with the suspension and the circumstances regarding the suspension.

“That’s my opinion, but we’ll honor the league’s decision.’’

Watkins, a 6-foot-3, 338-pounder, was drafted in the fifth round of the 2012 draft.

Like Fisher, Watkins provided few details about the suspension.
