At first glance, coach Chuck Pagano saw nothing wrong with Bjoern Werner.

The Colts’ first-round draft pick was among 37 players who participated in the opening day of rookie minicamp Friday.

So far, so good. In fact, the Florida State outside linebacker exceeded expectations.

“He’s got great first-step explosion,” Pagano said. “You see him running around here doing some things, things we saw on tape.

“Up close and personal now, it’s even more impressive.”

Initial impressions generally are futile since practices are non-contact and without pads. Even so, Werner was eager to make any type of impression.

“Awesome. It was so much fun just getting out there with the new teammates, the rookies, and just having fun,” he said. “I had a blast. It’s time for football again.
