Flavien Davis scored 19 points and Marcus Colbert added 16 to help Montana State beat North Dakota 78-70 on Thursday night in Big Sky men’s basketball.

Keyed by a couple of Stephan Holm 3-pointers and two big plays by Eric Norman, the Bobcats used a 15-3 run midway through the first half to seize control of the game. Norman converted three-point play at 11:28 to give the Cats a 15-12 lead, then Holm hit a 3-pointer after a Troy Huff turnover for an 18-12 lead.

A jumper and a pair of free throws by Antonio Biglow two minutes later pushed the Bobcat lead to 10, and when Paul Egwuonwu converted a layup on a dish from Biglow at 6:04 Montana State held a 27-15 lead. The Cats carried a 36-25 lead into the intermission.

Egwuonwu added 10 points for the Bobcats, who improved to 7-6 in the Big Sky and 12-12 overall.

North Dakota (7-6, 10-13) was led by Aaron Anderson’s 20 points and Troy Huff’s 17 points and 10 rebounds.

North Dakota, which trailed by as many as 20, got within 67-63 with 1:38 left but Montana State hit 11 of 12 free throws in the final minute to seal the victory
