"If there is an odd man out in the Mariners' clubhouse since Dustin Ackley's promotion, third baseman Chone Figgins certainly fits the bill.

Figgins played three of the six games since Seattle called Ackley up from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, and he was out of the lineup Thursday for the second time this series in the finale vs. the Nationals.

Expect that to continue.

"He's just not going to get as much playing time, and he knows that," said manager Eric Wedge. "He wants to get going more than anybody, and I want him to get going more than anybody, but he's in-between right now and that's not where you want to be."

Figgins went 0-for-4 on Wednesday, dropping his average to .190.

Ackley's promotion to become the everyday second baseman moves Adam Kennedy out of that spot, but Kennedy's .283 average ranks among the best on the team. He will continue to play regularly -- at third base, in place of Figgins, against National League teams.

When Seattle returns to American League rules with a designated hitter, it is tough to see Figgins getting many more at-bats. "
