Marouane Fellaini will be out for several weeks after undergoing surgery to address a wrist problem.

Manchester United’s £27.5million signing was ruled out of his side’s 2-1 win at Sunderland on Saturday with the injury.

Fellaini will see a hand specialist in Manchester on Monday before flying to Begium to be assessed by the national team doctor.

The 25-year-old has suffered ligament damage in his wrist which will require an operation.

Belgium international Fellaini is expected to be out for several weeks and will have to play with special brace when he returns to action.

United boss David Moyes said: “He’s got a wrist injury. He’s going to see a specialist. It doesn’t sound too good but we’ll wait and find out on Monday.
