Fabio Borini should have stayed at Roma rather than join Liverpool last summer according to the striker's agent.

The Italian international moved to Anfield last summer in a £10.5m deal but an injury plagued first season at the club saw the striker unable to recapture the form shown in Italy where he scored 10 times in 26 appearances.

Borini has since been sent out on a season-long loan to fellow Premier League side Sunderland and his agent Marco De Marchi has admitted the move to Liverpool may have been a mistake.

"I think Fabio would have been the ideal player for Zeman last year” he told Radio Mana Mana.

"But the decision was made to leave Roma. Of course it all happened very quickly and there was no chance to talk with the Coach.

"But having said that I still think Roma would have been the right team for Fabio."
