Ex-Buck Williams burns Milwaukee at buzzer

"Mo Williams burned his old team at the buzzer.

It was the latest insult incurred by the struggling Milwaukee Bucks, who led for most of the game Wednesday but succumbed when Williams calmly sank a 16-foot step-back jumper to give Cleveland an 83-81 victory at Quicken Loans Arena.

The Bucks (5-9) lost their fourth straight game as they could not put away a Cavaliers team that was blown out on Tuesday night by the Indiana Pacers.

Williams had just four points in the first half but quickly heated up in the third quarter, igniting a Cavaliers comeback as they outscored the Bucks, 31-24, to pull within three points entering the final quarter.

"At the start of the third quarter, when Mo was getting going, we weren't real competitive against him," Bucks coach Scott Skiles said. "We still have multiple players, no matter how much we go over it, (who) don't know what we're doing. It's unacceptable."

The Bucks also failed to execute in the final two minutes for the second straight game, following an 82-81 home-court loss to Oklahoma City on Saturday night.

John Salmons traveled with 2 minutes left and the score tied at 81-81, and he also missed a shot with 1:09 remaining and the score still tied.

Milwaukee even got another chance - thanks to a miss by Daniel Gibson - but Corey Maggette drove to the basket and turned the ball over while trying to squeeze a pass to teammate Drew Gooden in the paint.

"We had a lot of opportunities," Maggette said. "We go through these phases where we don't make shots.

"We do so many good things on defense, but offensively we just don't put the ball in the hole."

Skiles again said the Bucks failed to execute with the game on the line.

"We're confused for whatever reason on things we work on all the time," Skiles said. "When the lights are on, we're kind of standing and looking at each other and not running through what we're supposed to be running through and making our reads. We start ball holding and that's been a bad recipe for us."

Williams finished with a game-high 25 points on 11-of-22 shooting, but his last shot didn't convince at least one Bucks player.

"Lucky shot, lucky shot, lucky shot," Brandon Jennings said of Williams' buzzer-beater over Jennings' outstretched hands. "It was a step-back with a hand in the face, that's all I'll say about it."

Jennings struggled to a 1-of-10 shooting night and finished with three points while playing 28 minutes."
