Former San Francisco 49er Bubba Paris, who won three Super Bowl championships with the team, is facing misdemeanor charges over allegations that he failed to file tax returns for three years, authorities said Tuesday morning.
Paris, a former offensive lineman, whose real name is William H. Paris Jr., was charged Monday, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag.
According to the statement, Paris earned gross income totaling more than $142,000 for the years 2006 through 2008, but did not file federal income tax returns for all three years.
Paris, a Discovery Bay resident who has been a sports reporter and analyst for ESPN as well as local television stations KTVU and KPIX, is scheduled to be arraigned in a federal court in Oakland on March 4.
Each charge of failure to file a tax return carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.
Paris could not immediately reached for comment Tuesday morning.
