Everton have signed Barcelona B forward Gerard Deulofeu on a season-long loan, the Premier League club have announced.

Deulofeu, who has been playing for Spain in this summer's Under-20s World Cup, had also been linked with Tottenham.

But he has opted to play under his countryman Roberto Martinez, who is the Toffees' new boss after steering Wigan to FA Cup glory last season.

The highly-rated 19-year-old scored 18 times in 33 matches for Spanish champions Barca's side last season and made a handful of substitute appearances for the senior side, resulting in him earning a long-term contract this summer.

However, Barcelona have chosen to farm him out on loan for further first-team experience after snapping up Brazil superstar Neymar to join Lionel Messi in their attack.

Martinez has moved quickly to secure the teenager's services, making his fourth signing in three days.

He also brought his former players Arouna Kone and Antolin Alcaraz and Joel Robles - who was on loan at the DW Stadium last season from Atletico Madrid - from Wigan to Goodison.
