Everton have stepped up their interest in Portuguese midfielder Diogo Viana.

MirrorSport revealed in August that Goodison boss Roberto Martinez was monitoring the ace.

Viana has since continued his impressive form for high-flying Gil Vicente in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

And Everton must now pay £4.2million to get him ahead of Swansea, who are also interested.

Ironically, Championship Blackburn actually had a deal teed up for Viana in August but it was vetoed by boss Gary Bowyer.
