The Padres placed shortstop Everth Cabrera on the disabled list Wednesday morning with a left hamstring strain prior to to the rubber match of a three-game series against the Giants at AT&T Park in San Francisco (12:40 p.m.).

Cabrera suffered the hamstring injury last Sunday against Arizona at Petco Park, but the Padres delayed putting him on the disabled list in hopes that the injury would improve.

The Padres also recalled outfielder Jaff Decker from Triple-A Tucson to replace Cabrera on the 25-man roster. The Padres will still be playing a man short because left fielder Carlos Quentin (left shoulder strain) is unavailable, but has not been placed on the disabled list.

The Padres already had three other starters – second baseman Jedd Gyorko (right groin strain), first baseman Yonder Alonso (fracture to the third metacarpal in his right hand) and center fielder Cameron Maybin (tear in the PCL in his right knee) – on the disabled list.
