Lars Eller scored his first goal of the season to snap a 1-1 tie and Carey Price made 34 saves as the Canadiens defeated the New York Rangers 3-1 Saturday night at the Bell Centre.

Eller and Dale Weise each had a swipe at the loose puck in front as the Canadiens went ahead at 11:46 of the second period.

Weise, whose father was among the sellout crowd, added a second assist when his blind backhand pass from behind the Rangers’ net, found Max Pacioretty in the slot at 6:35 of the third period. The win boosted the Canadiens’ record to 7-1 and the last time they matched that start was in the 1961-62 season.
