Edwards's License Revoked In Drunken-Driving Case

"Wide receiver Braylon Edwards pleaded guilty Friday to a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resolving a case that began when he was stopped by the police in New York in September.

The judge agreed with the district attorney's recommendation that Edwards have his driver's license revoked for six months, have an ignition interlock system installed in his car to monitor his driving and pay a $500 fine, conditions consistent with a first-time offense.

Edwards, a free agent who played for the Jets last season, will continue participating in the N.F.L.'s substance abuse program, which is considered stricter than the state's standard drunken-driving prevention program.

The deal in court came a day after N.F.L. owners voted to approve a 10-year collective bargaining agreement, a major step toward ending the four-month-old lockout. If and when the players agree to a deal, teams will have several days to start negotiating with free agents who played for them last season. "
